PHILIPPINES VOLCANO

1/13/2020

Ash continues to blanket the Philippines as of press time, including in the capital city of Manila, about 62 miles north of the volcano. Flights have been cancelled, schools and other public institutions have closed, and tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from both the volcanic isle within Lake Taal and from the vast shorelines around it. So far, no casualties have been reported, and there is a chance this eruption could fizzle out. Still, many people likely remain in high-risk zones, and “the biggest bang is not always at the beginning of an eruption,” says Jenni Barclay, a volcanologist at the University of East Anglia. “On a timescale much longer than the threat of a hurricane, something else could happen that’s even bigger.” Past eruptions at Taal demonstrate that this volcano has a profoundly lethal capability, claiming thousands of lives throughout recorded history. If the latest event does become more explosive—a possibility that has scientists deeply concerned—it could yield a surfeit of volcanic hazards, from rocky debris bouncing across the lake to overwhelming tsunamis. “This is definitely a volcano to be taken seriously,” says Beth Bartel, an outreach specialist at UNAVCO, a geoscientific consortium of universities and scientific institutions.

EARTHQUAKE PUERTO RICO UPDATE

1/13/2020

A magnitude 5.9 shock hit Puerto Rico on Saturday morning as the island's residents were already reeling from a series of major quakes this week, including one on Tuesday that was the biggest in a century. The latest quake, which came around 9 a.m. local time, has caused even further damage, mainly in areas around the southern coast where hundreds of homes and schools had already collapsed from the Tuesday temblor that had a magnitude of 6.4. Saturday's quake, which was initially calculated at magnitude 6.0, also left roughly 59,000 customers without power, according to the island's power authority. Witnesses said the temblor caused concrete debris from damaged buildings to topple into the streets, mainly around the southern area.

Well, The Lord really opened some effectual doors today in Freeport Grand Bahama. Way worse than we imagined.  People are still traumatized everywhere & simply grateful to be alive. Most of Freeport was hit by a 7-20 foot title surge. 60 percent of the homes and businesses destroyed, virtually every other structure impacted by wind or water damage. These people were hunkered down under a major hurricane for 3 days.  Most packed into church’s or larger buildings on higher ground. The Storm was so intense it was pitch black outside the entire time. So loud you could not hear each other talk.
According to The Ministry For Grand Bahama:
- Over 6,000 homes destroyed/extensively damaged on island
- 18,000 people displaced (in shelters, left island, sharing lodging with family, in hotels, or temporary tents)
- All majors public schools (primary school and high school)closed until further notice. Almost 10k students currently not in school
- 60% of businesses in the Freeport not open for business, 11%  of that 60% WILL NOT OPEN, 23%?of businesses open are projecting to close or lay off in 90 days pending things remain the same.
- The immediate need for trained counselors is paramount.
- 50 confirmed dead. Over 1000 people still missing.
Continue to pray,

WAITING TO GO HOME!

Dec 2 - The number of people listed as missing after California’s deadliest wildfire has dropped again to 25, down from a high of more than 1,200 about two weeks ago, officials said.
The death toll from the Camp Fire that all but obliterated the mountain town community of Paradise in northern California stood unchanged at 88, the Butte County Sheriff Department said late on Saturday in a statement.
On Friday, the department had said 49 were missing.
The roster of those unaccounted for has fluctuated widely since the fire erupted on Nov. 8 and swept through Paradise, a town once home to almost 27,000 people about 175 miles (280 km) north of San Francisco.
On Wednesday, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said search and recovery teams had finished going through the ruins of some 18,000 homes and other buildings that were incinerated.
Authorities lifted evacuation orders for residents of some communities in the Magalia area, north of Paradise. Traffic is still barred from entering Paradise itself, the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
The cause of the blaze was still being investigated. But electric utility PG&E Corp reported equipment problems near the origin of the fire around the time it began.
We are monitoring the situation to stay updated as too when we can begin long term relief in Paradise. Please continue to pray for fire victims.

camp fire update

Hey everyone pray you have a blessed Thanksgiving with your family. On Monday I was on the road with Calvary Disaster Relief to Yuba City to meet with Pastor Kevin Fitzgerald to see how we might help with relief efforts in his community. We made our way to Calvary Chapel Oroville to meet with Pastor Bob Scott who lost his home and all his possessions in the fire. From there we made our way up to Calvary Chapel Chico to meet with Pastor Sam Allen who has opened the church grounds to facilitate Samaritans Purse and the Billy Graham Association. All of these were productive meeting for us and gave us a better grasp on what the relief needs will be going forward. Calvary Yuba City is planning a Christmas Outreach in their community for those displaced by the fire. Calvary Oroville will be available as a staging area for future relief and Calvary Chico continues to be a resource hub for relief efforts close to Paradise. Please keep Calvary Disaster Relief in your prayers as we plan for the long haul. We are committed to provide resources as well as teams for the "Camp Fire" effort as soon as the area is opened up for us to be on the ground. Your financial support is greatly appreciated, go to calvarydisasterrelief.org is you would like to help out financially. Take a minute and view this video we put together with Calvary Magazine.

praying for first responders!

At least 63 are now dead from a Northern California wildfire, and officials say they have a missing persons list with 631 names on it in an ever-evolving accounting of the missing after the nation's deadliest wildfire in a century.
The high number of missing people probably includes some who fled the blaze and didn't realize they had been reported missing, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said. He added that he was making the list public so people could see if they were on it and let authorities know they were safe.
"The chaos that we were dealing with was extraordinary," Honea said of the early crisis hours last week. "Now we're trying to go back out and make sure that we're accounting for everyone."
Some 52,000 people were displaced to shelters, the homes of friends and relatives, to motels — and to a Walmart parking lot and an adjacent field in Chico, a dozen miles away from the ashes.

CALVARY CHAPEL OROVILLE AND CALVARY CHAPEL CHICO ARE ACCEPTING DONATIONS FOR THE RELIEF EFFORT.
The community of Paradise CA was literally burned to the ground, thousands have been left homeless and the fire is only about 30% contained. Most people need food, gas, clothing and housing. We continue to pray for those needs and especially temporary housing.
2Corinthians 5:1 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Last year California recorded its worse fire year in history, as of this evening - in just four (4) days, 2018 has become the most devastating year of fire in California's history again. At this hour 25 people are dead and 100's are missing. At a burn rate of 80 football fields per minute (80) - that is 90 acres in 60 seconds -, there is no way to outrun the flames and the lack of oxygen and the intense heat has been fatal. the loss of horses, cattle and wildlife is staggering. Please pray for California and pray for the relief efforts that will be needed in the days and weeks ahead. Also that this terrible, ongoing disaster might cause people to turn to our only hope - Jesus Christ.
